The current level of hunger in Nigeria is quite appaling, driving many citizens to engage in deadly and disgraceful activities just to obtain their daily meals. This unbearable situation has led to calls for emancipation from hunger and poverty. However, it's hypocritical that Nigerians are directing their frustrations at the president and governors while ignoring the roles of traditional rulers and politicians.
In every state, there are traditional rulers with specific functions within their jurisdictions. Additionally, each state has three senators and at least ten representatives at the national level. These traditional rulers and politicians are expected to serve as agents of hunger and poverty alleviation in their respective regions.
Unfortunately, many Nigerians seem to have forgotten about these important figures. Traditional rulers are often only recognized at events where they spray millions of naira on musicians to have their names mentioned. It's time for Nigerians to hold these traditional rulers accountable for their contributions to supporting the government in alleviating hunger and poverty.
The difference between politicians and traditional rulers lies in their expected roles. Traditional rulers should be freely supportive to the people, providing aid without politicizing it. Senators and representatives should return to their respective regions and work to bring positive change to the people.
The consequences of hunger are devastating, with many lives lost and others incarcerated. It's time for Nigeria to wake up and demand action from its leaders.
God bless Nigeria, and God bless our leaders, both in politics and traditional rulers.
