Honestly, the thing that helped me most was getting really specific about what was actually happening in my body. I used to just think of anxiety as this big, formless cloud. But my therapist had me write down exactly what it felt like physically. For me, it's tight shoulders and a knot in my stomach about two hours after lunch. The second I notice those, I go for a quick walk. Literally just 10 minutes around the block. It breaks the cycle before my brain can start spinning stories.
I also found a weird trick that works: I sing. Not well, not loud, but just under my breath. Humming or singing forces your breath to slow down and get rhythmic. There's something about the vagus nerve getting a little massage from the vibration. Sounds ridiculous, but I've done it in my car before a meeting and it calms me down faster than trying to think my way out of panic.
Another thing no one talks about is just letting yourself have a five minute "anxiety appointment." Set a timer, sit down, and actively worry as hard as you can. Then when it goes off, you tell yourself "done for now, I'll pick this back up tomorrow." It gives your brain permission to stop running the loop all day. You'd be surprised how effective that simple boundary is.
