Honestly, the Blue Penny Museum surprised me more than I expected. I went there during a layover in Mauritius, thinking I’d kill an hour. Ended up staying until they kicked me out.

The highlight for me wasn’t even the stamps themselves, though the Red Penny and Blue Penny are incredible in person. It was the ship model room. You know those tiny, detailed models of old maritime vessels? They had a whole collection that tells the story of how Mauritius became a trading hub. I stood there for 20 minutes just imagining what life was like on those ships. If you’re into history or even just enjoyed *Pirates of the Caribbean* as a kid, that room will hook you.

Another thing nobody mentioned: the museum is tucked inside the Caudan Waterfront complex, which is this nice shopping and dining area. So after you’re done, you can grab a coffee or walk along the water. I had a really good sponge cake at a little café right next door. Makes the whole trip feel like a proper afternoon out, not just a museum visit.

One practical tip: bring cash for the entrance fee. They do take cards, but the machine was down when I went and the lady at the desk had to run to an ATM with me. A bit awkward. Also, take your time with the map on the wall that shows the old trade routes. I found that more interesting than the stamps, honestly.
