Honestly, Duolingo is great for building vocab, but for truly understanding a language's grammar and structure, I found the **Foreign Service Institute (FSI) courses** to be leagues better. They're public domain materials developed by the U.S. State Department to train diplomats. I used the Spanish and Korean ones.

They're not flashy. They're dense PDFs with long audio drills. But the method is incredible. They teach you sentence building from day one instead of just isolated words. I spent maybe 20 minutes a day reading a dialogue out loud, then doing the "response drills" where you have to answer a native speaker's question before they reveal the correct response. It forced me to produce the language, not just recognize it. The Korean pronunciation guide in particular is the best I've ever found online.

A close second would be **Khan Academy** for anything math or science related. Their recent AI tutor, Khanmigo, is actually useful because it doesn't just give you the answer. It talks through the problem with you step by step like a patient human tutor. I used it to finally wrap my head around pre-calc last year.

Wait wait... FSI courses are public domain?? I've been struggling with Korean for like a year and a half now and the pronunciation thing is literally my biggest wall. Duolingo keeps telling me I'm saying stuff wrong but never explains *why*. Gonna go dig up those PDFs tonight. Also your point about Khanmigo is spot on - I tried it for stats and it actually made me feel less dumb about messing up lol
