In a major step toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Yobe State, Hon. Salisu Muktari has led a high-level from Yobe State Ministry of health, headed by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gana Lawan Muhammad (Sun Gamsu), to Garbawa Yarimaram Ward in Potiskum LGA for an on-the-spot inspection of the proposed site for a new General Hospital.
The inspection visit focused on a large expanse of land measuring approximately 27 hectares, earmarked for the project. While presenting the site to the delegation, Hon. Salisu Muktari explained that the exercise formed part of the preliminary technical and planning assessments aimed at confirming the suitability of the location for a major healthcare facility.
“This location is considered suitable for the project at the local government level because of the availability of adequate land, its organized layout, and the nature of the surrounding population,” Hon. Salisu Muktari said while addressing members of the state delegation and residents of the area.
Leading the state delegation, the Yobe State Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gana Lawan Muhammad, alongside senior officials of the Ministry, inspected the site’s location, size, accessibility, and general environment.
The delegation expressed satisfaction with both the location and the landmass, noting that the size and setting of the site meet the required standards for the construction of a modern general hospital capable of serving Potiskum and surrounding communities.
Hon. Salisu Muktari further noted that the proposed General Hospital, when completed, is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare services, reduce pressure on existing hospitals in Potiskum, and strengthen the overall healthcare delivery system within the local government area.
The inspection exercise was witnessed by traditional leaders, including Lambas and Lawans, as well as community representatives who accompanied the delegation during the assessment, underscoring the importance of community participation in public infrastructure development.
Speaking on behalf of the host community, Lamba Mai Adiko expressed appreciation for the inspection visit, describing it as a long-awaited development for the people of Garbawa Yarimaram Ward.
“This project is a source of pride for our people. Before the arrival of Governor Mai Mala Buni, development did not reach us directly, and we were often left behind. Today, this inspection gives us renewed hope that our community will finally benefit from improved healthcare services and other related developments,” Lamba Mai Adiko said.
Residents of the area welcomed the delegation with optimism, expressing confidence that the inspection would pave the way for the commencement of construction.
