The Executive Chairman of Potiskum Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, hosted members of the Potiskum LGA Primary Health Care (PHC) Board in his office at the Local Government Secretariat, following the Board’s emergence as one of the best-performing primary healthcare institutions in Yobe State.

During the visit, the PHC Board presented performance awards and cash prizes amounting to ₦2.5 million, covering Q1, Q2, and Zone B Q4 assessments, which placed Potiskum first among the 17 local government areas in the state. The recognitions were supported by development partners, including UNICEF, Leadership, Impact, and other international health partners.

Presenting the awards, the Director of the PHC Board, Alhaji Tahir Mohammed, said the achievements reflected effective coordination, staff dedication and sustained institutional support from the local government.

“Out of the 17 LGAs in Yobe State, Potiskum ranked first. This success is a result of consistent support for the health sector and the enabling environment created for our operations,” Alhaji Tahir Mohammed said.

He noted that healthcare-related requests receive urgent attention, often within 12 hours, a factor he said had significantly improved service delivery and performance outcomes.

In recognition of his leadership role and commitment to strengthening the health sector, the PHC Board also presented a Letter of Commendation to Hon. Salisu Muktari, acknowledging his administrative support and responsiveness to healthcare needs.

Responding, Hon. Salisu Muktari dedicated the awards to healthcare workers across Potiskum Local Government Area and described the recognition as a collective success.

“These awards belong to our health workers who continue to serve with patience and dedication. From the junior staff to the management of the PHC Board, everyone played a role in this achievement,” the chairman stated.

He further announced that the ₦2.5 million cash prize would be redirected to support and motivate health workers who contributed to the success.

“This recognition strengthens our resolve to continue supporting the health sector. We will sustain collaboration with health professionals and development partners to ensure quality healthcare delivery for our people,” Hon. Salisu Muktari added.

The meeting underscores the Potiskum LGA Administration’s commitment to effective health governance, institutional collaboration, and people-centered leadership, reinforcing the LGA’s growing profile as a model for grassroots healthcare development in Yobe State.
