The executive chairman of Potiskum local government area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, has called on mobile phone traders to maintain their peaceful beliefs and assured them that a permanent site would soon be allocated to them.
The chairman made this call on Monday, February 10, 2025, while receiving a special delegation from the Yobe State government and the leadership of Potiskum Phone Centre (PPC) to sympathise with the phone traders and the local government chairman over the atrocities committed against the mobile phone traders.
The local government chairman expressed deep concern and assured the traders that strict action would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future and called on them to refrain from any form of conflict or violence.
The chairman then commended them for their steadfastness in following the rules and following the law from not taking the law into their own hands in retaliation.
A strong delegation led by the state commissioner for justice, Bar. Saleh Samanja, commended the phone traders for their courage and love of peace and conveyed the governor’s message of 10,000,000 (ten million) as a token of support from the executive governor of the state.
The chairman later took SEMA representatives to the market to witness the incident and sympathise with the affected community, where the chairman assured them of more support to find a lasting solution.
