Welcome to the First Story Building in Badagry Lagos State Nigeria.
The first story building in Nigeria, located in Badagry, Lagos State, holds significant historical importance. Constructed between 1842 and 1845 by Reverend Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), the building served as a mission house and a school for spreading Christianity in Nigeria.Built with traditional materials like mud bricks and a thatched roof, the building marked a turning point in architecture in Nigeria, symbolizing the influence of British colonial presence and missionary activities. It became a place for education, where early Nigerian converts like Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the first African Anglican bishop, studied and worked to translate the Bible into Yoruba.Today, the building is a museum showcasing artifacts from the missionary era, including original Bibles, educational materials, and other historical relics, preserving the legacy of Nigeria's early interaction with Western culture and Christianity.
