The executive governor of Yobe State, H.E. Hon. Mai Mala Buni, FCIA, CON, COMN, became a governor with an impressive history, from ward councillor to governor, chairman party to the chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum (LCBGF), and became a role model and reference for his peers.
The governor was recently invited to commission several projects by the Sokoto State governor, which showed that the recognition and hard work he has done has transcended the boundaries of Yobe State and the good people of Yobe but to the entire Nigerian states.
The governor started his political career as a ward councillor and held various political and party positions across Yobe State and the Federation before becoming the governor of Yobe State in 2019, where he also held the APC party chairman position as an interim leader. Despite being governor, he ruled the party for almost eighteen months to balance and improve it to face each party.
The governor achieved remarkable successes in party leadership. Under him, elected governors, senators, House of Representatives members, and various political office holdersflocked to join the party to satisfy him and his style of governance, which led to the party becoming the strongest and most popular party in Africa, with over forty million registered members.
Governor Buni has played a significant role in restoring the prestige of Yobe State in various aspects such as security, economy, modern infrastructure, market renewal, empowerment of farmers, youth development, and revitalization of the state’s infrastructure.
Several governors in northern Nigeria have honored him by naming major roads in their states after him and housing complexes they have built, the executive governor of Borno State recently named an estate after him (Mai Mala Buni Housing Estate) and invited him to inaugurate several projects he has completed.
Interestingly, despite such important positions and struggles, Governor Buni has no rival in Nigerian politics.
