Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to decisively tackle environmental and climate change challenges as part of efforts to secure sustainable development across the state.
The governor gave the assurance at the Government House, Damaturu, during the presentation of the Yobe State Climate Change Policy Document developed under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) program.
Governor Buni noted that his administration has made environmental protection a strategic priority, with sustained interventions in flood and erosion control, as well as measures to halt desert encroachment. He emphasized that proactive policies and long-term planning remain critical to protecting lives, livelihoods, and infrastructure from the effects of climate change.
Presenting the document, the Commissioner for Environment and Chairman of the ACReSAL Steering Committee, Alhaji Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, said the policy framework will serve as a guiding instrument for managing climate risks and strengthening environmental governance in Yobe State.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the Policy Document Committee, Baba Malam Wali—represented by the Director-General of YOGIS, Dr. Hassan Gana—commended Governor Buni for his consistent commitment to policies, programs, and projects aimed at mitigating environmental challenges and promoting sustainability statewide.
