Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has commenced the construction of a new educational institution, Mai Mala Buni College of Integrated Sciences (MMB-CIS) in Damaturu, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s education sector and promote integrated learning.
The college is designed to combine Islamic education with modern academic studies, creating a balanced system where students will learn Qur’anic studies, Arabic language, English language, and conventional sciences within a unified curriculum.
To ensure the early take-off of the institution, the state government has already constructed temporary classrooms and other essential facilities in the Red-Bricks area of Damaturu. These temporary structures will enable teaching and learning to begin while the permanent site of the college is being developed.
Meanwhile, the government has allocated 100 hectares of land near the Bukar Abba Ibrahim Housing Estate along the Damaturu–Potiskum Road for the construction of the main campus. The permanent site is expected to accommodate modern classrooms, administrative buildings, and other educational facilities that will support effective learning.
According to officials, the academic structure of the college will adopt an integrated educational model similar to systems practiced in countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, where religious and modern education are combined to produce well-rounded students.
The institution will also emphasize moral discipline and Islamic values while delivering instruction in both English and Arabic. It is expected to contribute significantly to improving access to quality education and reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state.
The project reflects the continued commitment of Governor Buni’s administration to expanding educational infrastructure and building a generation of students who are both academically competent and morally grounded.
