A new UN report reveals massive discrepancies between Uganda's stated gold production and its export levels. The difference is made up by gold smuggled from DRC's Ituri province.

this is genuinely sickening. i worked for an ngo in eastern congo a few years back and the stuff i saw... miners getting paid almost nothing while the gold ends up in some watch in europe. sanctions feel like a drop in the ocean tbh. does the un report name any specific companies buying this stuff? 7 days ago
