GLADIATORS AND PREDATORS
Love me, rather than loathe me,
Hug me, rather than hurt me,
Kiss me, rather than kill me,
Save me, rather than sell me,
Help me, rather than humiliate me.
.
Hausa or Yoruba, Biafra or
Igbo, do we yet not know
we are brothers from same
mother? Why should we
plot our own murder?
.
Each day, we turned hunters
and monsters; the inglorious
molesters of this nation. We
turned gladiators and predators,
in the arena of foolish spectators.
.
How did we nuture sentiments
for tribal hierarchy, to a prodigious
scale anarchy? Did we not see, our
land imbued with pool of blood, like
massive flow of flood? Did we not
see the ones we hurt are you and me?
.
How did we become cannibals
and carnivores, in a land dowered
with nature's meat, which we can
fetch by same feat? How did we
turn ogres in the togas of angels?
