Man this is heartbreaking. 12 lives lost and 38k affected... those numbers feel so huge but they're just statistics until you think about every single person behind them. My cousin lives in Accra and she said the water came up so fast people didn't even have time to grab anything. They're staying with friends now. The bit about building where water won't go next time is so key though - they keep rebuilding in the same flood zones and then act surprised when it happens again. Hope the govt actually follows through on this instead of just making promises for the cameras. 10 days ago
