Tucked between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, George Airport is small in size but big in impact. Serving the scenic Garden Route region, it’s a crucial link for travelers heading to towns like Knysna, Wilderness, and Mossel Bay.

Originally a modest airstrip, George Airport has grown into a modern regional hub handling over 700,000 passengers annually. It offers regular domestic flights to Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban through airlines like FlySafair and Airlink.

But what really sets it apart? George Airport was the first airport in South Africa—and one of the few in the world at the time—to operate entirely off the grid using solar power. It’s a pioneer in green aviation infrastructure, earning global recognition for its energy efficiency and sustainability efforts.

Inside, the airport is easy to navigate with a few cafés, car rental desks, and local shops. It might not be flashy, but it’s fast, clean, and perfectly placed for adventure.

Whether you're landing for a holiday along the coast or flying out after hiking the Tsitsikamma trails, George Airport is where convenience meets eco-conscious travel.
