I would like to address Senator Ahmed Lawan’s recent claims regarding his involvement in the Gashua-Potiskum Road project, approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2021. Upon reviewing the attached newspaper publications and official statements, it is evident that Senator Lawan’s name is conspicuously absent from any reports or acknowledgments related to this project. Even the then-Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, did not mention Senator Lawan in connection with the project. This raises serious questions about the validity of his claims.

It appears that Senator Lawan is attempting to take credit for a project he did not contribute to, solely to enhance his image in the eyes of the people of Zone B. This is deeply concerning, especially given his position as the No. 3 citizen in Nigeria during the 9th National Assembly. Despite holding such a high office, there is little evidence to suggest that he used his influence to bring meaningful development to Yobe South.

During his tenure as Senate President, Senator Lawan had numerous opportunities to advocate for and deliver projects to Yobe South. However, the people of Yobe South have yet to see tangible benefits from his leadership. Even basic infrastructure, such as bicycles, has not been provided to the community. This lack of action reflects a troubling pattern of neglect and raises questions about his commitment to the people he represents.

It is clear that Senator Lawan’s recent claims are driven by personal interest rather than genuine concern for the people of Yobe South. His attempts to manipulate public opinion through propaganda and false narratives are unacceptable. The people of Yobe South are wise and discerning; they will not be swayed by empty promises or deceptive tactics.

As we approach future political cycles, it is crucial to hold our leaders accountable for their actions—or lack thereof. Senator Lawan’s failure to deliver for Yobe South during his time in office speaks volumes about his priorities. The people of Yobe South deserve a leader who will genuinely represent their interests and work tirelessly to improve their lives, not one who seeks to claim credit for the efforts of others.
