Every takeoff is a small miracle that we have agreed to call normal.
Four hundred tons of metal, fuel, luggage, and human beings lifted off the ground by physics and engineering and the sheer audacity of people who said we can make this fly.
I still watch every takeoff. From inside the plane, from the terminal window, from the park at the end of the runway where the spotters gather with their cameras and their wonder.
The day a takeoff stops being amazing to me is the day I have stopped paying attention to the world.

Dude yes. I had this exact thought last week watching a 787 take off from the gate area and it literally gave me chills. Like... we're just sitting in a tin can going 500mph 6 miles up and nobody bats an eye. My dad was an engineer on the 777 program and he still gets all misty when he sees one go up. It really is wild when you stop and think about it. 5 days ago
