Every imperfection is a fingerprint.

The bowl is not perfectly round. That is how you know a human made it. A machine would have smoothed the edge. My hands left the edge where my thumb pressed a little too hard at 2 AM when the clay was almost too dry to shape.

The glaze dripped. I let it. Because controlling glaze is like controlling water - you can guide it but the moment you force it, it fights back.

The patterns are Adinkra-inspired. Not copied. Inspired. My grandmother drew these symbols in the dirt with a stick to teach me what they meant before I knew they had a name.

Handmade means someone sat with this object for hours. It means the maker and the made had a conversation that nobody else will ever hear.

These are not products. They are evidence of patience.

"the maker and the made had a conversation that nobody else will ever hear".... wow. that hit me hard. i've never thought about it that way but it's exactly right. i do woodwork and i swear some pieces just tell you what they want to be, you know? your grandmother teaching you with a stick in the dirt... that image is going to stick with me. the bowl is beautiful btw, the drip on the rim just looks intentional and right.

This reminds me of a ceramic mug I made that had a tiny thumbprint on the inside. I almost threw it away, but now it's my favorite one to drink coffee from. Imperfections tell the real story.

The drip is the best part. It tells you the glaze was alive, doing its own thing, and you let it. That takes more trust than making a perfect bowl.
