Drawn In

I am drawn in by your sweetness
the side of you that thrills me,
that fills my stomach with butterflies,
that makes my heart flutter.

I’m in transit,
with the sour side at the wheel,
steering me toward a crossroads.

Here I stand
drawn to you,
yet moving against the tide of my own heart.

I don't want to.
But I must.
For I must heal this broken me.
I must delve deeper,
press further
toward a better version of myself.

Your face,
your smile,
they pull me under,
drowning me in your goodness
making me forget the reasons I must resist.

But I must remember:
What is it that I truly want?

For feelings, beautiful as they are,
are never enough.
Emotions are waves,
too wild, too fleeting,
to anchor a life upon.
