"Destiny 2: The Final Shape," the highly anticipated expansion of Destiny 2, has been officially delayed to June 4, 2024. This delay aims to allow Bungie to realize a "bigger and bolder vision" for the game. The Final Shape is described as the culmination of the first ten years of Destiny storytelling, representing countless hours spent by Guardians in the game world. Bungie is focusing on honoring this journey by dedicating more time to deliver an experience that players will remember and treasure for years to come.
In the lead-up to the release of The Final Shape, Bungie has planned new content and events to keep players engaged. The Season of the Wish, which starts soon, will extend until the launch of The Final Shape in June. Although most of the content and narrative for this season will run from late November to February as originally planned, Bungie is adding new content available for all players. This includes new weekly progression-based quests called Wishes, the launch of Moments of Triumph with unique rewards, and three new PvP maps dropping in May. Additionally, the Guardian Games will be moved up to March with a renewed focus on class competition. Starting in April, a two-month content update titled "Destiny 2: Into the Light" will prepare players for their Guardian’s journey into the Traveler.
The delay of The Final Shape follows some challenges faced by Bungie, including recent layoffs that impacted the game's community and social teams. Despite these setbacks, the development and updates continue, with Bungie expressing excitement over the extra time provided to bring their vision for The Final Shape to life.
