Take responsibility for yourself, your wife and children
I watched the movie "COURAGEOUS"
With five major characters and fathers
They made a resolution to take responsibility for what happens in their family, four out of five being a corp and were lectured that children, teenagers and youths who end up in prison, in a gang or in the street doing bad is as a result of the absence of a father in their life
Character 1: who has a teenage daughter caught my attention most.
At the age of 15 she met a boy of 17 asking her out. Her parents being a Christian asked her questions
Who is he
Does he know God?
And her answers weren't vital and credible.
He said he can't let her go out with someone who doesn't know God.
The first time he met the boy was when he came visiting the girl and they had a discussion.
I learnt something there " a guy who doesn't respect your parents won't respect you as a woman".
So to make it up to his daughter, he took her to an expensive restaurant and spoke to her, he then proposed to his her.
He gave her a ring and told her that she should wear the ring till he'll hand her over to the man who loves God, and cherishes her.
The second time he met the boy was in a gang attack with the police, the boy was in the gang.
He went to prison but he took it upon himself to go there and be the father he never had.
Character 2: was also a corp with a son, but after making his resolution before God, his family and friends still went astray.
As a corps he was supposed to be accountable for everything they do, the things they seize or any possession in their hands
The sheriff of their dept was was talking to one of his friend when he was calling the numbers of things they've seized according to their reports.
His friend Knowing that the figures were false went ahead and reported it to the higher authorities.
Unfortunately for character 2 that particular day, he was given a drug to give to the person he charge, he didn't meet the person there and then he tried reducing the package when he was caught by his Friends who were disappointed in him. He was later taken to the prison.
He wasn't there to be with his wife and son during father's day.
Character 3: An Asian man, who struggled to provide for his family needs, not until favor met him in an unexpected situation. His police friend found him a better job through his connection where he was paid well.
Being a good and consecrated worker he was tested, a big decision which might mar his life. But he held on to the truth and said he'll never, his integrity paved way for him and he was promoted to a higher level. He made sure the pursuit for money didn't stain his integrity.
His wife waiting to hear the bad news from him but instead heard a good one was happy.
He didn't let his family down and most importantly God.
Character 4: being a corp also, but a runaway dad
He impregnated a cheerleader when he was in the football team in school. He told her to abort the pregnancy which she never did
She kept the child and for four years he never asked of her nor the child.
He had to open up to one of his friends because they all thought he was the only bachelor amongst them. During their conversation he said something
" Atleast I've done more good than bad, so God will forgive me". His friend asked him who's the closest person to you, he said his mum.
Then he continued, what if your mum was killed brutally and the person that killed her was caught and taken to the court, and tge the killer tells the judge, I've done more good than harm. Will the judge because of that let him go? He said no, but why? Because he is a good judge.
So that explains also that God is a good judge, because you've done good all your life and decided to do bad one dat without repentance won't forgive you either.
He also made a resolution to make it up to the mother of his child and to his daughter also .
He sent her a letter asking for forgiveness and ways he could gain her trust again also to see his daughter and to be part of her life.
Do you know that he celebrated Father's Day that year with his daughter.
Character 5: the last of them all had two children
A boy and a girl, and would always describe the girl to be sweet and the boy to be stubborn.
The boy who wanted to partake in a sport won't be accepted unless his dad runs with him
His dad refused and told him to quit which he never did
Untill one day his daughter was involved in a ghastly accident on her way back from a friend's birthday party. She died and that changed the family so much.
His only daughter whom he cherished so much was gone and he regretted not fulfilling her last wish which was for him to dance with her.
Twas after her funeral reality checked in, he cried.
He made a resolution to reconcile with his son, he helped him with his race, spoke to him about God and was always there for him. He also made sure he danced with his eyes closed as if he was dancing with his daughter.
He doesn't want to be a non-chalant father
He wasn't proud to apologize for his wrong doing to his son, and he made sure he made a better dad.
So Father's, we your children might not ask verbally
But our petition might be emotional. Please be there for us, when it's sunny, cloudy or rainy.
We might be bad sometimes but please be there to lead us back to the right way.
Be our number one supporter, be our mentor. Don't allow the pursuit of money to lead you astray from your fatherly calling.
We need a praying father, a counseling dad, a loving dad who will always use the word i love you.
Be there for us, let our tears be your tears, let our joy be your joy.
Sometimes mum needs you, we all need you to be there for us.
Be by our bed stand at night praying for our growth, play with us, but when it's time to correct us pls do and we'll make you proud.
Sometimes we are not happy being insolent and stubborn, train is in the way we should go so that when we are old we'll not depart from it.
We want to do the right thing by obeying you, honouring you so that it might be well with us (Ephesians 6:1-5)
Pls don't provoke us to wrought, we might be wounded pls be our doctor
We might be depressed, pls be our therapist
We might be wrought, but pls be our counselor
We might be a Judas, but pls be our Jesus.
We as a children will make you proud, we'll honor you as a father. We'll pray for you.
We love you Daddy
They all did what they think was best for their family
But only one did it wrong and he paid dearly for it.
