The first market and biggest in Africa by geographical size and volume of goods, according to Wikipedia is the Onitsha Market domiciled in Onitsha North Local Government Area, the commercial capital of Anambra State in southeastern Nigeria.

The volume of goods traded in the market according to a study revealed that the average traders in the area in at least six consignments of 40 tonnes (40-feet containers) of goods annually.

Due its strategic position along the River Niger on the west and Fegge through Osumaru Road from the East, the market has gain international attention and patronage from companies and individuals from Accra Ghana, Abidjan, Douala Cameron, Niamey and Cotonou, Benin City just to mention a few.


The Kejetia Market otherwise known as the Kumasi Central Market is located in Ghana and is supposedly the largest market in the continent of Africa. Being and open-air marketplace, the Kejetia Market records an average of about 55,000 visitors daily and over 8000 stores and 20,000 vendors in a single location.

It's amazing how Africa is stretching and marking significant strides in the economic world. We're not a third world nation, the other nations got there before us and we'll catch up.
