Today marks the 20th day of October. On today's episode, I'll be sharing fun facts about my tribe, Igala...
Here were go:
1. The Igala's claim to be descendants of Pharaoh Ata, who ruled Egypt from 3000 BC to 2990 BC. (Here's a secrete, I believe it).
2. The Igala Achi (our cultural attire) is a fabric with two main colors, black and mustard yellow. It may also include blue, white, and green stripes. (Beautiful isn't it!?)
3. The Igala traditionally worship Ojo, the supreme being. About 95% of Igala born children are given names with "ojo" present either as prefix or suffix.
4. Masquerades are a key part of Igala art and culture, and are a sign of the kingdom's cultural exchange with neighboring groups.
5. Agriculture
The Igala are primarily an agricultural people, growing a variety of crops, including yams, taro, pumpkins, squash, corn, manioc, peanuts, palm oil, and kernels.
6. Location
The Igala are located in the present-day Kogi state of Nigeria, West Africa, on the left bank of the Niger River. Idah is the capital city of Igala.
7. Language
The Igala language is known as íchí Igáláà.
Now you know about the Igala people...
If you want to marry one, I'm still single. Lol....
