On today's tour of exploring Africa Challenge, we'd be touring the ruins of Meroe, located in Sudan around the eastern bank of Nile River.
So, welcome to the captivating ruins of Meroë, a site that invites you to step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of the ancient Kingdom of Kush!
Her location and Accessibility is on the eastern bank of the Nile River, about 200 kilometers northeast of Khartoum, Meroë is part of the Nubian Desert. Its remote yet accessible location adds to its charm, allowing you to experience both the tranquility of the desert and the grandeur of the river.
Let's take a Glimpse into History, Meroë served as the capital of the Kingdom of Kush for several centuries, flourishing between 300 BCE and 300 CE. This remarkable civilization was known for its wealth, accomplished iron-smelting industry, and trade connections with distant lands, including Egypt and beyond. The site is home to over 200 pyramids, which are distinct for their steep angles and smaller size compared to their Egyptian counterparts. Each pyramid is a royal tomb, offering a glimpse into the burial practices and beliefs of the Kushite elite.
