My story on how I got here
I was in the bed that morning scrolling through on Instagram (lazy me 😏, I can't specifically remember what I was looking for …), then I came across Nircle, advertising their first poetry challenge on the theme “My Nigeria Dream”.
Being a poetry lover and as a poet, it caught my attention immediately. Honestly my first reaction was a mixed feeling, I was excited 🤗🥰and tensed 🤭😬 at the same time (cos I didnt see that coming) but arouse my curiousity to know about the platform. Eventually, I signed up for it, and joined the competition. When I read the details, I started panicking when i saw that closing date for submission was just in few days time.
“Oh my God, can I make it”,
“Should I leave it and participate in next one?”,
“Is not too late, besides many people have submitted their poems, will my own count?”,
“What will I write now?”,
“Where will I start from?”,
“What if I don't win?…” all these were thoughts and questions running through my head.
I took a deep breathe and a leap of faith in God and in myself to do it. At first, I burned two midnight candles to source for an inspiration and I penned down some ideas on a pieces of paper. I hastily finished the poem before the deadline. Notwithstanding the fact that Nircle later gave grace of 15 days to people to submit their work even after the deadline, (I must say this is one of the things I love about Nircle community, they carry everyone along with love as family). After closed submission, I waited for the results and for them to announced the winners. On that day, the results was supposed to be announced, I checked my Nircel app, no show. I checked next day, nothing happened. I felt discouraged, so I stopped checking.
Weeks later, I don't know what made me to check my email but when I did, I saw that Nircle sent me an email four days ago. So, I opened it, BOOM!!! I was staring the actual picture that I uploaded on this post. I screamed!!!!. Trust me when I said I screamed, just know that I overreacted 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I was excited that I was selected. someone will be like “but you took the third position”. Honestly, I wasn't expecting any, hello!!! 😂 excuse you🤣
I'd say that it is that moment gave me hope and strength to win the first position in Nircle second poetry competition on the theme “Africa Culinary”. Here I am, blazing the trails for what my future holds in Nircle community.
Listen !
