Nestled between Tsavo West and Amboseli National Parks in southeastern Kenya, Chyulu Hills National Park is a captivating expanse of rolling green hills and ancient volcanic formations. Spanning approximately 741 km², this park is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, diverse ecosystems, and panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

🌋 Geological Marvels

The Chyulu Hills are part of a 100-kilometer-long volcanic field, featuring a series of ash cones and craters. One of the park's most remarkable features is the Leviathan Cave, also known as Kisula Caves, which extends over 11 kilometers, making it one of the longest lava tubes in Africa. These geological formations offer a unique opportunity for exploration and adventure.

🌿 Biodiversity & Wildlife

Despite its rugged terrain, Chyulu Hills National Park supports a variety of wildlife. Visitors may encounter elephants, giraffes, zebras, elands, bushbucks, and leopards. The park is also a haven for bird enthusiasts, boasting over 300 bird species, including ostriches, eagles, and guinea fowls. The diverse habitats, ranging from open grasslands to montane forests, provide ideal conditions for these species to thrive.

🥾 Activities & Experiences

Chyulu Hills offers a range of activities for nature lovers and adventure seekers:

Hiking & Nature Walks: Explore winding trails that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.

Cave Exploration: Discover the depths of Leviathan Cave and other lava tubes scattered throughout the park.

Bird Watching: With its rich avian diversity, the park is a prime location for birding enthusiasts.

Horseback Safaris: Experience the park's beauty on horseback, offering a unique perspective of the terrain.

Camping: Immerse yourself in the wilderness by camping under the stars in designated areas.

📍Accessibility & Conservation

The park is accessible via the Kibwezi Gate in Makueni County. Its proximity to other major parks makes it an integral part of Kenya’s wildlife corridor. Chyulu Hills is managed collaboratively by the Kenya Wildlife Service and local community associations, aiming to balance conservation efforts with community involvement and sustainable tourism.
