After 1995 sealed something memorable, something that was going to be forever between Chiebuka and uzoma, life was as beautiful as the skies, the air even sang with them, the butterflies seemed to cheer them on.
"So Chiebuka has chosen that woman in-stead of his own mother". This statement seemed like a rhetorical statement but also sounded like a threat.
Nneoma couldn't swallow it up that Chiebuka was finally choosing to stand up for himself, it was annoying because this new 22 year old from no where was now dictating what Chiebuka did.
Chiebuka was always in a shout match with Olisa, Olisa was a first son and his respect wasn't to be touched a bit.
He confronted Chiebuka about his wife not engaging properly as a proper Igbo wife should.
The story turned around that Chiebuka's wife dictated everything he did,she also seemed to be far off from their mother, not engaging like a proper wife should, she didn't ask of Mama Olisa in the proper way a trained Igbo woman should behave. She acted as though she was an ofe-mmanu raised individual but she wasn't, so it typically equalled to mischief , and the mischief was aided by Chiebuka because it is a Man that tells his wife where to stay and how to act.
December 2005, Papa died as he had been sick for a long time, he was bedridden from his long time ailment that everyone was tired of, Out of this three sons and four daughters, only Nneoma the first daughter seemed to bear the brunt of caring for both her ailing father and her aging mother, chika and her sisters always had an engagement or two in their husbands houses and substituted with money, pointing out that Uzoma should engage properly and help out with the family.
It was playing out glaringly, Olisa's wife being the wife of the first son was tagging along so beautifully with Nneoma, playing the role of a good Igbo wife, even when it wasn't convenient for her.
Uzoma wouldn't think of it,she would not dream of it.
Uzoma on the other hand wanted a different kind of life, hence her own mother was never called good by her own father's people after she did everything, she bled her life into being a performative good wife and yet got the backlash the most, out of all her father's relatives wives.
It was enough conviction Uzoma her to decide to perform from afar and not give too much of herself and everything she was.
Never was it recorded that Chiebuka and uzoma had a performative relationship to please anyone while they were courting, she was just being sweet and cordial and loving that other things didn't matter to Chiebuka, but his family wouldn't hear of it.
It was a thing of concern that Nneoma pointed out that she had never infact seen this uzoma of a girl sweep the least or boil water whenever they ran into each other at Chiebuka's house; but it was a fast assumption, because she was not wife yet.
By 2005, when papa died, Uzoma made it clear to her husband that she wasn't here to please anyone, hence she didn't kill papa.
Whatever activity that was done had to be done in the household of the 'Ekwes' , nothing moved Uzoma, not even threats because the picture she had of her mother and how she ended up being a bad wife after her goodness didn't leave her consciousness, more so after her own father died, the picture was clearer.
No woman could ever be a good wife to any family, It was clear to set standards on time.
Nothing could change Uzoma's mind, she knew exactly how it would end.
Her mother was all the example she needed.
