CHANGE
They are bunch of libertines,
lately did we know,
then -what we heard was
'change', from honeyed lips,
it triggered smiles, and
then infectious mirths, it
triggered hope of merited exit
from long-sufferance; we
cooled, we relieved, then
anticipating reign of 'change'.
Then, national slogan arrived,
"sai Baba, sai Buhari", mutual
tongues chorused, impoverished
civilians, desperate urchins; we
leapt, hailed, then, climbed the
bandwagon too. Thence, 'change',
'change', was the latest mantra
which charmed us, it soared
far and wide the world and heavens,
as all -this change really craving.
Truly, 'change' was birthed,
slyly, logically and miraculously
in gone era of 2015. Grand
fiesta boomed within and global
circles, but arch proponents of
'change' are the foundational cabals
since birth of politicking. They
fingered the brains of mẹ̀kúnùs,
elites and liberals, this is why no
changes we see; its emergence,
choked by covert desperados.
We knew not it were bogus
appeals, when manifesto they
bragged, that lives disarranged
shall be rearranged, that there
shall be no more carnage, that
Boko Haram shall wreck no
more damage, and minors shall
refuge no more in orphanage,
that the homeless shall dwell
no more in the garage.
Now, we need remind the
bombastic ranters of 'change',
that herdsmen yet spurting rampage,
economy still on sabotage, foods
yet on shortage, and pro-grafters
still demanding pottage. They
must be reminded; our beloved
girls still cower in terrorist cage.
On the edge of impending outrage,
let us remind them, this is not
the change they promised us.
