The administration of Gov. Mai Mala Buni has achieved a landmark transformation in Yobe State’s health sector, revitalizing the Primary Health Care (PHC) system across all 178 wards in 17 local government areas—and setting a new national standard for inclusive healthcare delivery.
Through coordinated efforts between the Yobe State Primary Health Care Management Board and local government councils, the state has built and upgraded PHC centers that now meet international standards—equipped with solar power, trained staff, and essential medical facilities.
These reforms have drastically improved access to quality healthcare for rural families, especially mothers and children who previously traveled long distances for treatment.
Speaking during an inspection in Potiskum, Hon. Salisu Muktari, Executive Chairman of the Local Government, commended Governor Buni’s commitment to the wellbeing of citizens.
“What Governor Buni has done for our health system is beyond infrastructure—he has restored confidence in public healthcare,” Hon. Salisu Muktari said. “Families no longer travel long distances for simple treatment. Now our children are healthier, and our mothers are safer.”
Residents in several LGAs say the difference is life-changing. Communities in Fika, Gulani, and Potiskum now enjoy reliable medical services, safe maternity care, and steady immunization programs.
The partnership between the PHC Board and local councils ensures maintenance, supervision, and accountability—a structure that guarantees sustainability beyond political cycles.
Under Governor Buni’s visionary leadership, Yobe’s health sector has shifted from neglect to nurturing, restoring dignity, hope, and access to every community.
This achievement not only strengthens the state’s health infrastructure but also reaffirms the administration’s enduring commitment to equity, compassion, and progress from the grassroots up.
