Mr Sanjay moved to Lagos last year with his family - his wife and jovial children. He was a Mud Engineer for a prestigious company while she was a preschool proprietor at Waddel's Place for Special Children. Mr Sanjay can be described as a quiet character with a propensity for seeking solitude, his wife on this other hand was a force of nature. She was assertive and "free with words". I remember an incident that occurred on Christmas eve. I had just come in to pick up my mom's dishes when I heard a sound in the kitchen. I hurried there thinking the worse but I was blocked by Mr Sanjay's wife who assured me that everything was fine. Later, Sarita, their teenage daughter would recount everything her father confided in her.

"Shivering with fright Mr Sanjay looked at his wife while inching slowly toward the door that had been thrown ajar as she burst into the room barely able to speak for anger had wrapped its talons around her throat. Peeking at her from underneath hooded eyelids he debated the wisdom of speaking at all so he pondered escaping unscathed. With lips the colour of snow he croaked a single word - please. As she turned to him he noted with dismay that her eyes seem to blaze like the flames of hell. Looking away he mustered up courage, knowing he might as well be playing with fire. Realising sealed lips were a flag of peace in this situation he said nothing more. Reaching a hand to the back of his neck to make sure his head was still intact he chanced a glance at her. “Fix this” her voice rang like the blast of a volcano. With dread he realised he didn’t know where to start from. How was he going to sweep the crumps of bread that had fallen under the kitchen cabinet? He wondered"
