This Thing Called life — Episode 20
💊💊💊
I was in a bus one afternoon, one of those short trips that somehow feel long. The engine sounded tired and everyone looked like they are managing life in small portions. A woman was arguing with the conductor over change. It was a small amount, but the argument was loud. People were already choosing sides with their silence.
Then someone behind me said, calmly but sharp, “Madam, calm down now. You are a Christian.”
The woman turned fast.
“So because I am born again, I should allow him cheat me?, I no be mumu Christian oo.”
The bus went quiet for a second, then moved on like nothing happened. But that reply stayed with me.
Born again.
But not grown again.
Later that evening, while buying bread, I saw a young man shouting into his phone. He was angry. Very angry. Calling names. Threatening to block someone. When he ended the call, he sighed and said to no one in particular, “God knows my heart.”
That sentence too stayed with me.
It made me remember something I once wrote that caused small trouble and big conversation. I titled it, “They said salvation is the passport to heaven but I tell you it is not.”
