Chapter 2, Ep 2
📝SHE
The next morning, Aliyah woke up early, feeling refreshed after sharing her secret with Abigail. She got dressed in her crisp school uniform, the bright green and white fabric a stark contrast to her troubled thoughts.
Abigail joined her outside the dormitory, looking stylish in her own uniform.
"Morning," Abigail said, adjusting her skirt.
"Morning," Aliyah replied, smiling.
As they walked to class, they discussed their plan.
"We need to make a list of what you need to buy," Abigail said.
"I know. Let me check the school's requirements," Aliyah said, rummaging through her backpack for the school handbook.
They stopped at the water fountain, taking turns sipping cool water.
"Okay, so we have math textbooks, practical equipment, and art supplies," Aliyah said, ticking off items on her fingers.
Abigail nodded. "We can ask some of the seniors if they have any spare materials."
As they approached the classroom block, Aliyah checked her watch.
"Time's running out. My art class is on the other side."
Abigail nodded. "I've got science class. Meet you at break?"
Aliyah smiled. "Yeah, see you then."
They parted ways, Aliyah hurrying to her art class.
The classroom was already filled with students, chatting and laughing. Aliyah took her seat, exchanging smiles with her classmates.
Mrs. Oyedele, their art teacher, wrote on the blackboard.
"Today, we're exploring watercolor techniques."
Aliyah's creative juices began to flow as she listened to Mrs. Oyedele's instructions.

Break time arrived, and Aliyah eagerly sought out Abigail. They met at their favorite spot, under the shaded tree.
"Hey, how was science class?" Aliyah asked.
Abigail rolled her eyes. "Tough, but manageable. How about art?"
Aliyah grinned. "Loved it! Mrs. Oyedele's class is always inspiring."
Abigail smiled. "Glad to hear that. Did you make a list of what you need?"
Aliyah pulled out a crumpled piece of paper from her pocket. "Yeah, I did. Textbooks, practical equipment, and art supplies."
Abigail scanned the list. "We can ask seniors for help. Maybe they have extras."
Aliyah nodded. "And I thought we could also try to find cheaper options in town."
Abigail's eyes sparkled. "Brilliant! Let's plan a trip to town this weekend."
As they chatted, their friends joined in, curious about their conversation.
"What's going on?" Nneoma asked.
Aliyah hesitated before Abigail intervened.
"We're just planning a project," Abigail said smoothly.
Nneoma nodded, accepting the explanation.
As the bell rang, signaling the end of break, Aliyah felt grateful for Abigail's quick thinking.

At the dormitory, Abigail rummaged through her trunk, pulling out a colorful kolo (a popular box used to save money). She opened it, revealing a hidden compartment.
"Aliyah, I've been saving up for emergencies," Abigail said, counting out ₦30,000.
Aliyah's eyes widened. "Abigail, no! You don't have to do that."
Abigail pressed the money into Aliyah's hands. "Take it. We'll get your school materials this weekend."
Aliyah felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes. "Thank you, Abigail."
Abigail smiled. "We're in this together."
Next, Abigail pulled out a bag filled with school supplies.
"My school mother and some seniors donated these," Abigail explained.
The bag contained notebooks, pens, pencils, and even a math textbook.
Aliyah's heart swelled with gratitude. "You're amazing, Abigail."
Abigail chuckled. "Just returning the favors. Remember when you helped me with my English essay?"
Aliyah smiled, recalling the memory.
Together, they counted the money and supplies, feeling hopeful.
₦30,000 + ₦17,500 (Aliyah's remaining money) = ₦47,500
Enough to cover most of the necessary school materials.

Abigail smiled warmly at Aliyah. "And don't forget, you can take from my provision anytime you need it."
Aliyah's eyes welled up with tears, touched by Abigail's kindness.
"Thank you, Abigail. You're more than a friend," Aliyah said, her voice trembling.
Abigail hugged her tightly. "We're sisters, Aliyah. No need to thank me."
As they hugged, Aliyah felt a weight lift off her shoulders.
With Abigail's support, she knew she could face the challenges ahead.
"Let's make a plan for this weekend," Abigail said, releasing Aliyah from the hug.
"Yeah, let's go to town and get those materials," Aliyah replied, feeling more confident.
Abigail nodded. "I'll ask my school mother for more supplies. We'll get everything you need."
Aliyah smiled, grateful for Abigail's unwavering support.
As they settled in for the night, Aliyah realized that sometimes, family isn't just about blood ties.

Saturday morning arrived, and Aliyah and Abigail set out for town, eager to acquire the necessary school materials.
They boarded a bus, chatting excitedly as they navigated through the bustling streets.
At the market, they haggled prices, laughing and joking with vendors.
"₦500 for this textbook?" Abigail asked, raising an eyebrow.
The vendor smiled. "For you, my sisters, ₦400."
Aliyah grinned, impressed by Abigail's bargaining skills.
With their shopping list nearly complete, they took a break, enjoying cold snacks and drinks.
As they sat, Abigail asked, "Feeling better about school now?"
Aliyah nodded, smiling. "Thanks to you, Abigail."
Their final stop was a small stationery store, where they purchased pens, pencils, and notebooks.
As the sun began to set, Aliyah and Abigail headed back to school, laden with bags and smiles.
Mission accomplished.

As they waited by the roadside, a young man, roughly Khalid's age, approached them.
"Excuse me," he said, smiling warmly. "I couldn't help but notice you ladies. My name is Umar."
Aliyah and Abigail exchanged wary glances.
"Hi," Aliyah replied cautiously.
Umar focused on Aliyah. "May I have your contact information? I'd love to get to know you better."
Abigail stepped in, protective. "Why do you want her number?"
Umar shrugged. "Just thought she seemed interesting. No pressure."
Aliyah hesitated, unsure.
Abigail intervened. "Sorry, we're not interested."
Umar's smile faltered, but he nodded. "No worries. Have a great day."
As he walked away, Abigail turned to Aliyah.
"Be careful around strangers," Abigail advised.
Aliyah nodded, grateful for Abigail's watchfulness.
A taxi pulled up, and they hailed it.
"Ahmed Hostel, please," Abigail instructed the driver.
As they settled in, Aliyah felt relieved.
