Before you drag me, let me say it with my full chest...

‎Before you drag me, let me say it with my full chest...

‎If there is one aspect of marriage I truly want to live out and build on,
‎it would be preparing meals for my husband — especially those early morning meals before he leaves for work.

‎Not because “it’s a woman’s duty to run the edible affairs,”
‎but because I watched my mum do it again and again — not just for Dad, but for us.
‎I watched the glow on her face whenever we said a simple “thank you.”
‎And if appreciation is a subject, Dad is the lecturer-in-chief.

‎He appreciates and hype her meals so loudly that the singles around would say,
‎“Una too do o.”

‎I can literally count the few times I ever woke up early to prepare my own meal as a secondary school student.
‎She would always ask the day before or early that morning:
‎“Should I prepare this for you?
‎What will you eat?”

‎My lunch box was always ready. Always.
‎Even on days when she was sick, she still did it,
‎and not because Dad required her to, but because love made her consistent.

‎Down to my last WAEC and NECO exams, she still packaged food in my special flask.
‎Oh yes — I carried cooked food to school from Nursery class till my very last day in Secondary school.

‎She did the same for Dad.
‎Days she knew work would keep him out late, she would calculate how much a plate of food might cost in her head,
‎and before you say “knîfe,” she was already in the kitchen.
‎A magician.
‎A nurturer.
‎And the most beautiful part?
‎Days she knew he would use the car, she packed the food neatly in a cooler.

‎During my National Diploma program, Mum would package snacks and meals and send someone to deliver them to school, almost weekly.
‎Yes, even though I stayed in the hostel.
‎And anytime I came home for a a day break or two she would prepare something for me to take back.

‎She still does it now.

‎Sometimes she calls me and says,
‎“Which of your foodstuff do you need?”

‎Funny enough, it’s the crayfish I’m always running out of. 🤣

‎And then there are the moments she sings:
‎“My husband this…
‎My husband that…
‎If you don’t like it, wait for your turn — he’s my husband.”

‎Well, she knows we’re all sharing her husband until God blesses us with ours. 😏😆

‎Even on Facebook, she is my biggest fan —
‎fully invested in what I do.
‎She reads every post, watches every video from beginning to end,
‎but not without saying:

‎“Baby send me data.
‎These your videos are finishing my data.
‎Notifications of your posts will just be pumping in like credit alert.
‎Baby it’s your video that is finishing my data o.”
‎🤣🤣

‎She wants compensation for being a supportive mother. 🤣

‎Moments like this make me pause,
‎pick out a fraction of the countless things she does for us and for the body of Christ,
‎and I feel so grateful she is ours.

‎She tries to act tough,
‎but she is the softest soul I know.
‎And she consistently teaches this Gen Z (me) that marriage can have its hurdles
‎and still be so beautiful that it outweighs the hurdles, and silences naysayers.

‎Today is not her birthday,
‎but it’s never too early — or too much — to celebrate her.

‎Ehen…
‎Who again said beautiful marriages don’t exist?
‎Who said it?
‎ 😏😏😒

This post really touched me! Appreciating my mom's cooking in marriage is such a beautiful sentiment. It shows how much she invested in us and our support system. Her dedication reminds me of the love and hard work that goes into sustaining a family. I'm glad it made you smile and reflects the strong bond you share.
