Avoid overused words!

Do you remember when you had a debate in school or maybe, you listened to one?
I bet there are some mistakes, you identified during that time, which you felt could be corrected, right?
Being a famous debate chic in secondary school, I usually identified several of them.
Some made by me and others made by my friends or opposition team. When I did, I'd try my best to correct them and use them, better if I planned to win.
Did it work? Absolutely!
I'm pretty sure, you're itching to know what it was and I'll share it here with you.
One of the mistakes, I identified them, was "Over-used words".
You see, when trying to prove a point to someone, the one thing you should avoid is repetition of words or repetitive statements.
When this happens, you drain your listeners and the confidence, you had at the beginning begins to wear off.
Of course, why wouldn't it?
Who wants to listen to someone, who keeps saying the same thing, over and over again?
That action alone, sends a signal to the brain that you're out of words or the creative spark in speaking, so if you're not a strong speaker, you become tongue tied, temporarily.
Goodness! That doesn't sound good, right? I know!
Now, over the years, I've realised that the same thing applies to writing because good writing, has to be read out aloud.
Nothing will keep the readers captivated, if you keep using the same words again and again.
Every paragraph of your work, should be unique in its style.
I'm certain that you do not want your readers to predict the next line, do you?
As a writer, you should avoid, "Over-used words".
Explore other words, style of writing and even change genres from time to time (if you're a fiction writer).
A good writer should be versatile in every field. You may not be the absolute best but you should be aiming to do better.
In essence, what am I saying? AVOID OVER-USED WORDS!
