... The petition filed by the Yobe State House of Assembly alleging that Hon. Salisu Muktari has reallocated properties owned by others is full of flaws.

The executive chairman of Potiskum local government area, Hon. Salisu Muktari, is a man known for his steadfastness in defending the dignity of Potiskum local government, rescuing confiscated properties and reviving derelict government buildings across the local government area.

The houses that some are claiming ownership of are houses that were built by the Yobe State government in the local government area as Zonal Houses during the tenure of the late Sen. Mamman B. Ali in the Potiskum and Gashua local governments.

Since the completion of the housing complex, there has been no official announcement of whether it was handed over to any person, official or local government itself, thus allowing some people to invade the houses and live in them after seeking approval from the State Ministry of Housing, which does not mean that the person has permanent ownership of the house.

For a years since the death of the late Sen. Mamman B Ali, people have been living in the housing complex as squatters without any permanent ownership certificate, which is now being re-assigned by the government and auctioned off some of the houses to different people.

This is why the local government chairman, inline with orders from Yobe State Government, has set out to reallocate the houses by handing them over to those approved by the state government and not to those who are not officially have approval documents of ownership.

After witnessing the residents of the Jos Road housing complex in Potiskum Local Government Area, they went out to claim it's not their own homes on the basis that they have no official record of ownership , Only two of them refused because they were shameless, dishonest and took government property as their own.

This prompted them to file a petition with the state assembly seeking its intervention, what we need to know is that a petition is nothing but a formal request or call for intervention signed by a group of people that submitted it; it does not give you the right to own what is not yours in any way.

We must stand up to restore the dignity of this local government; we must end the exploitation of government assets, which is seriously affecting the economy of the local government and the state of itself.

Hon. Salisu Muktari is committed to the recovery of government properties and to bringing development projects to Potiskum Local Government Area.
