Atomic Habits by James Clear

This book did not change my life overnight. It changed it in increments so small I did not notice until six months later when I looked back and realized I was a completely different person.

The premise is deceptively simple: forget about goals. Build systems instead. A 1% improvement every day compounds into something extraordinary over a year. A 1% decline does the opposite.

The most powerful idea in the book is identity-based habits. Do not say I want to run. Say I am a runner. Do not say I want to read more. Say I am a reader. The behaviour follows the identity, not the other way around.

Who should read this: anyone who has ever set a goal, failed, and blamed themselves. This book will show you the failure was not you. It was your system.

Rating: 9/10. The most practical self-improvement book written in the last decade.

The identity-based habits thing clicked for me way harder than I expected. I started telling myself 'I'm a person who exercises' instead of 'I should go to the gym' and it actually made me stop negotiating with myself every morning. Still catch myself slipping sometimes but the whole systems vs goals thing is wild once you actually try it
