ANOTHER FAMILY WAHALA

Coming back from work, looking like my world is about to come to an end because I was stressed. Please who sent me? I was looking pale as if my ancestors were about to welcome me back home from the land of dead, but me! I refuse to give in. This was me in 2020, when I was working as a Marketer in Nirsal microfinance bank. I was working so hard to meet my target. Hmmm, that job made me to understand that life is not easy, not for weak at all.
I reached home with my last strength, dropped my body on the bed like a log of wood. I was about to doze off before my phone rang. “Ooooooom! Mummy should leave me alone, Habaa! I'm not the only child she gave birth to” I answered the call and she instructed me to come to her shop and help her out. She needs someone to run errands for her. Chaiiii, I wanted to cry because my whole body was in pain. I was exhausted and tired. I told her that I'm coming in the next few minutes and that was my sin. I thought to myself let me rest small before I go. Hmmm, that is it, I slept off.
I was woken up by the voice of my mom. Shouting and raining all manner of insult on me. It was like the voice of thunder. “Idiot, foolish child, I don't blame you…
I was looking sleepy, lost and confused at the time till I checked the time. “Oh my God this is 9:17pm” I shouted. I've slept more than four hours. I was staring at my mom, face to face, with no words to say, no sorry, nothing. She was still yelling at me like a kid till the plot twist. Omooo, I got angry because I was fed up with the whole thing I lashed out too. Explaining to her, how I am tired of life that I couldn't breath and just want to disappear. My mom was surprised by my words cause I sound like someone who is sucidal. She was silent. She went straight to her room and locked her door.
I noticed the black nylon on top of the dinner table. I opened it and it was food, just like I thought. My mom cooked my favorite food, yam and egg sauce with fried plantain and it came with chilled coke. At first, I felt bad for the way I reacted. I enjoyed the food and was satisfied. I lay down on my bed, staring at the ceiling as memories of life experiences came back to me alive. Honestly, the bond we share in my family is very deep and now I understand why my mom quietly left. She knew, yes she knew. The next morning, I greeted her “Good morning mummy”. “Good morning Nwa nji eje obodo oyibo” she replied kissing my forehead. I smiled and that made my day bright.
