Rivers - Port Harcourt
Hi, My name is Vera and I am 16 years old, it was the end of semesters holidays and my mother had insisted that me and my siblings weren’t going to spend our holidays at home, in which my siblings seemed to be happy about it, but I kicked against the idea, I wasn’t a fan of going out, talk more of a holiday out of our home, I wasn’t pleased about the idea at all and tried talking my mum to exclude me from the plans but no words got to my mum, and somehow she had managed to convince my father to be on her side, which meant that I just had to accept my fate. The next week mom told us that we were going to visit her childhood friend who resided at GRA in Port Harcourt city, we lived in Abia state and I have never been to Rivers State. Me and my siblings packed up some clothes into our boxes and prepared to leave, mum and dad were to drop us at her place. The journey wasn't as long as I expected it was a two hour drive, I sat at the window side of the car so I was able to get a clear view of everything and places we passed. We finally left the outskirt of abia state. As our car drove through the busy streets of Port Harcourt, I gazed out the window, taking in the sights and sounds of the city. My siblings, who were 13 and 14, chattered excitedly about all the things they wanted to see and do during their visit. Our parents, who had grown up in the city, pointed out landmarks and shared stories from their childhood. I was amazed by the things I saw, the city was beautiful.
I felt a sense of anticipation and wonder as our car approached to our destination, as dad pulled up to the large two storey house, that was to be our home for the next two weeks my heart began to beat a little faster. As we stepped out of the car and onto the porch, the door swung open and a familiar face appeared. “Welcome!” said Mrs. Emenike, beaming with delight. My mother and Mrs. Emenike embraced and exchanged pleasantries. and then me and my siblings were ushered inside. The house was large and spacious, with high ceilings and large windows that let in the bright sunlight. There were several bedrooms, a dining room, a living room, and a kitchen that seemed to stretch on for miles. And she even had kids that were the same age grade as me and my siblings.
In the days that followed, me, my siblings and Mrs Emenike's children had a whirlwind tour of the city. We visited the Museum of Nigerian History, where we learned about the country's past and present. We went to the Port Harcourt Zoo, where we saw snakes, monkeys, and even crocodiles. We took a boat ride on the Bonny River, enjoying the cool breeze and the sights of the city from the water. We went to the Port Harcourt Tourist Center, which I later found out it was also called the pleasure park, we rode the Ferris wheel and played games. The next two weeks were filled with new adventures and unforgettable memories. We went on a safari, saw waterfalls, and tasted local delicacies. We visited the markets, haggling with vendors and buying souvenirs. We even learned to dance traditional dances. As we immersed ourselves in the culture and the people of Port Harcourt, I and my siblings felt a deep connection to the city and to their heritage.
That wasn't all, at home we all had a lot of fun we played games and saw different movies. During our stay Michael. Mrs Emenike's first son invited his friends for a small get together, I didn't bother going down, since I had a gossip mate, Sarah the second child of Mrs Emenike, she was a very good companion and knew how to make a person laugh almost for one to pee on their body, we ended up gossiping about the boys that came over to the house, I never thought I'll have so much fun in my life like I did in their home. The Emenike's were warm and welcoming, and they treated me and my siblings like family. We shared meals together, and went for walks in the neighborhood. We swapped jokes and riddles. I felt like we had known each other for years, even though we had just met. It was a special kind of connection, one that i would never forget.
And perhaps I'll say that the most special part of the trip was the time we spent with Mrs. Emenike and her family. They had become like a second family to me and my siblings, and we cherished every moment we spent together. Whether we were cooking dinner, playing games, or just chatting about our lives, we all felt a sense of belonging and connection that was truly special. And when it was time to say goodbye, there were plenty of hugs and promises to stay in touch. After our holiday, i and my siblings returned home with a new appreciation for their heritage and for the city of Port Harcourt. I felt a sense of belonging that i had never felt before, and i knew that this would be a place we would always carry in our hearts. Even when we were far away, we would always feel connected to this special place and the people who lives there. In a way, it was like we had found a home away from home. Mum saw the way I smiled days after we were back and asked me how the holiday went, she needed no one to tell her that I enjoyed the holiday, I thanked my mum, and told her that I would love to visit there again.
So incase you're wondering of the next place to spend your vacation I'll gladly advice you to choose Port Hacourt, my reasons being that, the beautiful city of Port Harcourt, Nigeria is full of color and culture. The wide streets are lined with palm trees, and the air is thick with the scent of tropical flowers. The city is known for its vibrant nightlife, with clubs and bars that stay open late into the night, if you're a fan of night parties. But there's more to Port Harcourt than just its vibrant nightlife. The city is also home to a number of museums and art galleries, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Nigeria. And of course, no visit to Port Harcourt would be complete without a visit to the stunning beaches along the coast.
