Day 26 - THE ROLE OF AKERELE'S ELDERS
The Yorubas would say, "Agba kí wá l'oja, kí orí ọmọ titun wọ."
This translates to mean that the presence of the elders in the society is why there are less societal ills.
Akerele is a family entrenched community and the elders of Akerele play a key role in seeing that the community does not lose its heritage.
Ocassionally, community meetings are held were vital issues are discussed with the elders who use their past experiences to guide the younger generation and of course, the result is a balanced community.
For instance, if someone does something that is morally wrong in the community, the elders make a key contribution in resolving the issue.
The roles of the elderly one is pivotal to community growth.
