Amid tears, Nigerian living in Europe share the ordeal of trusting family members back home.
Here's an excerpt from her account:
Where you do rich even foundation? Foundation. When my brother told me the foundation cost 700,000 Naira, I asked where the money went because he had not even started the foundation. My people, I am back again. Listen to this video. If who you are helping is dragging you back, you need to be cautious. Many of our people here always call, asking for money for school fees, business investments, or due to hunger. Some of them are just lying, using excuses to see if you have food to eat. Once they see you can take care of yourself, they will milk you. Many of them don't really care about you.

Yes, I'm not saying don't send money to your people or don't take care of them, but let me tell you this: take care of yourself first. Don't try to impress anybody. Who do you want to impress? Most of the people you impress will laugh at you later. You know why? I always tell people to minimize their generosity because when the giver goes broke, the receiver will gossip. I'll say it again: minimize your generosity because when the giver goes broke, the receiver will gossip. People forget easily. That's why if you feed a dog for two days, that dog will remember you for two years. But if you feed a human for two years and stop for two days, that person will forget you in two seconds.
Now, look at what just happened. Be patient and listen to the whole story.
My brother abroad, people always take things seriously because they don't want to be cheated. Watch the video from the beginning to the end, subscribe, and share my video. I need an audience to listen to what I'm saying. Many of them care, and many of them want you to be wise. The only thing I want you to do for me is to share my video so that it reaches other wise people. I'm not saying give me money to help you buy property. No, just be wise on your own and make decisions on your own. Not every hungry dog you see needs to be fed; some just need power to bite you.
Watch the video, be patient, and you will hear everything explained. I'll talk at the end of it as a conclusion. Watch the video from the beginning to the end. Let's go.
He bought the phone, and within a week, he said the phone fell in water. He asked for a new phone again, claiming it cost 45,000 Naira. I still sent the 45,000. When I asked him to show me the progress on the foundation, he stopped answering my calls. I tried to involve my close friend, whose village is near mine, to send her father to check on my brother. Her father found my brother drinking with friends instead of working on the foundation.
I called my mother and she said it wasn't the first time the family had treated me this way. Later, my brother finally answered but claimed I owed him money. He told people this to prevent them from getting involved. I eventually involved the police, and only then did he manage to bring out some papers. But he had already sold half of the land.
I cried but realized money isn't my problem; I just need someone reliable to back me up.
So, I decided to buy a ticket to visit home. After buying the ticket, my sister told me not to come. I didn't know their reasons. Today, I called my other sister who said I shouldn't come home until I finish building a house. I've tried to build a house so the family has a good place to live, but nobody helps me. Yet, when I plan to visit, they reject me until I buy a house.
I forgive easily because of my soft heart, knowing that what God has blessed, no one can curse. But this time, they told me it's better to stay away until I have my own house. Abroad, how do you have good families? I always see videos of people being embraced by their families when they return home. But for me, they've eaten all my money. I bought my own ticket to visit, yet they tell me not to come until I buy a house.
I've cried so much, my eyes are dry. I've tried to do something for my family, but they bring me down. I didn't use their money to come to Europe, so why should I buy them a house? There's a time for everything. This is my reality now. I pray you don't experience this because your hard work shouldn't be in vain. I wake up early, take care of my child, go to work, and still manage to send money home, yet they sit on top of it.
I come from the worst family. My own blood relatives and step-siblings have betrayed me. If you're in Europe, especially Nigeria, and have family abroad, please try to support them. Don't be like me, just trying to make a place for them to stay. Now, I regret it because they don't appreciate it.
I advise you to be wise, take care of yourself first, and monitor anything that involves your money. Most of the houses built by people abroad are enjoyed by their relatives, not themselves. I pray you will never work like an elephant and eat like an ant. Many people abroad sacrifice their lives for their families, but don't fall into the wrong hands.
