1. Update on Afikpo Electricity Issues with Regards to the Rehabilitation of Transformers as approved by Government.
2. Ehugbo Holding *Engr. Anthony Egwu to account for the money released for the Electricity Project and to also to come and remove/rework the shoddy jobs he did with substandard electrical materials* or face the hot/severe consequences.
It is a well known fact that Government approved and released the sum #208m for the repair all the vandalized transformers in Afikpo Urban Area, sadly as investigated, the job was shoddily handled by someone who happens to also come from same Afikpo in collaboration of his Boss, the Commissioner for Power.
*Recall that on the 12/08/2024, Ehugbo summoned all their principal stakeholders to ask questions over the situation of Afikpo Light...* It was in that summons that the truth was made bare, and Ehugbo people got charged with all the facts and figures which were been swept under the carpet.
Thereafter, Ehugbo immediately commissioned Electricity Committee led by the ATWA PRESIDENT GENERAL, Chief Ogbonnia Okogwu.
The committee as commissioned religiously began the investigations, started with the visit to Ministry of Power where they met and interacted with the commissioner for power...
Their visit to Ministry of power revealed that the commissioner as a cohort transferred the whole sum of #208m to the account of Engr. Anthony Egwu who then shabbily spent/wack the money and poorly executed all the jobs without conscience while not allowing anyone to supervise him.
It is on record that the commissioner said that Engr. Anthony Egwu returned some funds (about #9million naira) back to the ministry after he had butchered the funds in the way he liked even when the entire Afikpo Transformer repairs have not been completed.
Now after the meeting with the Commissioner, the Ehugbo electricity committee came home and started investigating the work done in relation to the value of money released, *it was during this investigation of work done that Ehugbo Electricity Committee found out that all the jobs done by ministry of power, led by Engr. Anthony Egwu was substandard and negatively contrary to the approved specifications which Government paid for.*
Ehugbo Electricity Committee further found out that in addition to other substandard materials used in all the transformers, the cable sizes were also affected, *where 150mm and 300mm armoured cables are to be used, Engr. Anthony Egwu used barely 70mm cables.* *which the team of EEDC confirmed to be a total disaster and said that they shall never accept/energize such level of poorly executed jobs.* This outright rejection of the entire work done by EEDC is now a more worrisome as even if Light comes to Afikpo line, *the whole transformers worked by Engr Anthony Egwu shall never have electricity power due to poor workmanship and use of fake materials.*
This situations became more worrisome to the Ehugbo Electricity Committee which prompted them to summon Engr. Anthony Egwu, and after a thoroughly reviewed meeting, with a tour in all the transformers, all the flaws of the bad work was shown to Anthony Egwu which he accepted to start the amendment, the Ehugbo Electricity Committee therein ordered Anthony Egwu not to cut any corners again in repairing the shabby works, he is to make sure that all reworks in all the transformers should be done with the use of correct quality materials as approved or face the consequences.
Anthony Egwu was giving till 31st of October, 2024 to correct all the shoddy jobs that he criminally not minding that he is from Afikpo.
Most worrisome is that there are so many other transformers which was brought to the attention of Anthony Egwu to capture in the project but he wickedly refused capture them but yet he and the commissioner is claiming to have some surplus funds returned to Ministry while the project remained incomplete and partly done with fake materials.
*However, Ehugbo electricity committee is expected to call for another community meeting at Ogo Amangballa and formally update the entire Afikpo people on the assignment which was given to them.*
This report is factual and verified, it's shameful to see how an individual person could be mal-handling what the entire community is depending on for survival. *It' seems there's a curse that's holding Afikpo down from getting stable electricity.*
In a similar development, Hon. Ikoro lamented over the huge sum of money ( *#70.5m* ) naira which has passed through the same Engr. Anthony Egwu to enable Ozziza to get light but till now, nothing is seen to be a possibility from Anthony's frivolous work, *everything has been like a gambling.*
The Ehugbo Electricity Committee therein have considered to investigate the Ozziza issue if Hon. Ikoro can bring evidence to lay hands on, considering that Ozziza is part of Ehugbo.
The EEDC promised that the repair of the old line which is currently feeding Afikpo Light will be ready anytime soon, *but re-emphasized that none of those Transformers worked by Engr Anthony Egwu will be energized unless he thoroughly rework them with the correct quality materials and correct cable sizes.* This made the Ehugbo Electricity Committee to give Engr Anthony Egwu till 31/10/24 to make all the necessary reworks while waiting for the final verdict of Essa Ehugbo on this terrible act by an Afikpo son.
Kudos to the ATWA PRESIDENT GENERAL, Chief Ogbonnia Okogwu who has been working tirelessly to see that things get better in Afikpo.
