Adonis

Who is Adonis? As
eager my wish to know,
of him called Adonis,
.
they spake of him like
a head beneath the crown,
or a blue-blooded kind,
.
they make of him like a
head to bequeath the town,
or a true, blessed kind,
.
so gracious is his name, and
spake of his glorious frame;
by which sprouts his fame,
.
and the handsomeness, which
imbued his humanness, doth
enkindles mortals’ curiousness,
.
hefty as lofty, though he’s
a lad distant from forty, but
they professed he’s worthy,
.
from distance, all spake of
his charming countenance; a
gallery for swarming attendance,
.
young and old, ladies and
lords, and gentle fellows,
troop to caress his eyebrows,
.
who is this Adonis? As
eager my wish to know,
of him called Adonis,
.
whose name the winds know,
and whose tale the kings crow,
to these kids as they grow,
.
Adonis! Adonis! Who is this
Adonis? It is he, who, cautiously
forged in wombs of the gods.
