A New Beginning

Africa my Africa,
Africa if whom my grandmother cries of on the banks of distant rivers
The words of David Diop rings through my head everytime I think of you my Africa.
Of great bloodline and powers
Blood of the one forged directly from the earth,
From the hand of God to face of Gaia
How carelessly that blood has been spilled
Carted away in numbers
To distant shores unknown it's children were taken
Her back lays bare, waiting for salvation but it seems far, seems very unlikely.
Her children plumage her left goods
Raped day and night by those she calls sons.
Abandoned by her father
Her breasts have run dry
O my Africa, what has become of you
Her children leave in mass, seeing no hope in her
Day and night she weeps in misery
Loneliness her only companion
The Babylon of our time, a once great being
Her sisters laugh at her, bragging if their children and how they finally crush her. Afrika.
But just like everything on earth
Life is new every morning
New growth ensues
No matter how slow, life breathes.
Her children who having heard her tales
Fight for their grand matriarch, their mother.
She who gave her life.
Africa isnt dead, it's alive
And when there's life, there's hope
Nothing gives a dying man strength like hope.
The only thing a dying man clings onto.
See that tree over
Growing steadily and slowly, that is your Africa, springing up anew
Just like many others before me
As long as we exist, Africa is free
Free from her chains, free from her torment, free from prejudice, free from pain
And her shall be like her
Free from all that holds them back.
Africa ga-adi ozo.
