South Africa has lost a quiet giant. David "DD" Mabuza, the former Deputy President and a stalwart of the African National Congress (ANC), passed away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 64. His death marks the end of an era for a man whose life was defined by resilience, service, and an unshakable commitment to the people.
From Classroom to Cabinet: A Journey of Service
Mabuza’s story was one of humble beginnings and extraordinary impact. Born in the rural village of Brondal, Mpumalanga, he started as a teacher, a role that shaped his understanding of grassroots struggles. But the call of liberation was too strong to ignore. He joined the ANC during the turbulent years of apartheid, dedicating himself to the fight for freedom.
His political career was as pragmatic as it was principled. As Premier of Mpumalanga (2009-2018), he was known for his hands-on leadership, often engaging directly with communities.
