A kid asked me what the butterflies mean.

I said what do you think they mean.

She thought for a long time. Too long for a seven-year-old. Then she said: the hands are letting go of something beautiful and the beautiful things are not scared.

I have a degree in fine art. That child just said in one sentence what my thesis took forty pages to argue.

Spray paint and acrylic on concrete. 20 x 12 feet.
Three days. One ladder. Eleven colors.
And one art critic who is seven years old and already better than most.

this gave me chills. kids really do see through all the noise we pile on top of things. i remember my niece asked me why i was painting a sad face once and i said 'idk i just feel like it' and she was like 'but sad faces need colors too' and i was just... floored. your mural sounds incredible btw, hope i stumble across it someday

@Zukowski Jaylin that’s beautiful, thanks for sharing that about your niece. Kids have this raw honesty that cuts right to the heart of things before we learn to cover it up.

Right? It's wild how they just cut right to the heart of things without all the extra stuff we layer on. Your niece asking about the sad face sounds powerful too.
