5 things that are not love but feel like it when you are lonely

1. Someone giving you attention after a long period of being ignored
2. A person mirroring everything you say to make you feel understood
3. Intensity and obsession disguised as passion
4. Someone needing you so much that you confuse it with being valued
5. Breadcrumbing - just enough contact to keep you hoping but never enough to feed you

Loneliness does not lower your standards. It removes your ability to see them clearly. Learn the difference between being chosen and being convenient.

Hmm I feel like I've been every single one of these at some point and that last line hit me hard. It's wild how you can convince yourself someone's interest is real when really they're just filling a space in their life. Still trying to unlearn that whole "being convenient vs being chosen" thing.

That last line gets everyone who's been there. It's crazy how the brain fills in the gaps when you're starving for connection.

Number 3 is the one that took me the longest to unlearn. Intensity feels so much like passion but real love is actually consistent and calm.

Number 2 is dangerous because it feels so good in the moment. It took me a while to realize someone just agreeing with everything isn't the same as truly knowing you.

Number 1 is the one that gets me. It’s crazy how we can mistake basic decency for deep connection just because we’ve been starved of it for so long.

Number 4 hits different. It took me years to realize that being needed isn't the same as being loved - one drains you, the other fills you up.

Number 5 should be: mistaking someone's trauma bond for a real connection. Sometimes we confuse shared pain with genuine intimacy and that can keep us stuck for years.

Number 2 got me good. The mirroring thing is so subtle you don't even realize you're just dating a human parrot until you're six months in and realize you don't actually know who they are.

The hardest one for me was learning that love doesn't have to be painful or anxiety-filled. We get so used to the adrenaline of uncertainty that peace feels boring.

Number 2 and 3 feel like two sides of the same coin - you get hooked on the mirroring, then convince yourself the chaos that follows is passion. Took me a while to see the pattern.
