SLEEP
final chapter
chapter 7
The sun glowed it's sparkling light high on the horizon. The sky showcasing it's blue beauty on the streets of Red Rivers. Abigail awoke from her slumber. Her sprit returned back to it's physical body. She stood up from the ground, cleaned herself of dust on her outfit she was wearing while in the dream realm.
She surved her surroundings.
She was standing at the town's center. She recognized it, it was the place where the accident happened. She looked around for the car she was on, but couldn't find it or the driver as well.
" Good to see you are okay."
She turned to the sound of the voice.
It was James Morgan. He was putting on a black suit, a bag wrapped around his shoulder as he approached her. She smiles and pulls him into a hug, she was glad he was okay. They both have been through a lot. He pulls off.
" We have a problem. I woke up in a supermarket, glad and all but... I think we are the only one who came back. Everyone else is passed out... Some are already... dead Abigail. Blood gushing out of their ears and eyes," he informed her, but his voice was that of fear and pain.
" Am sorry you had to see that. I thought waking up from the dream realm will set everyone free from the hold SKROMDREAD has on them," she stated.
" Well clearly you were wrong! I need to find my family." He was about to leave but she held him by the shoulder.
" We need to find a way to stop this demon and-"
He cut her off. " How?! We are dealing with an evil spirit Abigail! You said it yourself, it needs a host and since that's no longer you, it's moved on to another body. Probably far away from here, I need to be with my family before they die too."
" That's negativity! I refuse to accept that." She held both his hands. " Listen to me, remember what I told you. Have faith, Matthew 17 vs 20 ; verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."
He sighs. " You have a way with words, you know that."
" I know."
" So what now?"
" SKROMDREAD told me we were connected, that I am the beckon to which he operates. He used my physical body as a way to which he can travel in and out of the dream realm. He had the opportunity to kill me while I was there but he didn't do it." She confirmed folding her arms.
" Maybe it was because he couldn't harm a child of God."
" True. Aside that, he said they weren't believers so it was easy to get to them." She looked at him now grinning like someone who has solved an equation.
" What?" He asked.
" He's not yet gone, he's in their dreams! In order to free everyone-"
" We need to make them believers of the Lord Jesus Christ!" He finished her sentence.
" Exactly."
" But they are in the dream realm and we are here, how do we get access to them all. I mean we are talking about close to twenty thousand people!" He implied.
" I need to do what I've not been able to do for the past fifteen years."
" What's that."
" Sleep," She said. " Do you have a Bible with you."
" Yeah. It was lying beside me when I woke up." He opened his bag and brought it out handing it over to her. "Are you sure you don't want me to come with you."
" I need to do this on my own. Besides, this is what I was sent here to do, I know that now... Bring the people of Red Rivers to Christ." She clarified.
She then laid down on the ground and wrapped her arms around the word of God on her chest.
" Good luck. Sweet dreams."
She nods and then For the first time in a while, she closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep...
*****
She opened her eyes. She was in the void of nothingness again. She stood up, bible in her hand. This was his hideout just like before. She felt the shadow forming around her again, and immediately SKROMDREAD makes his appearance.
" You are a fool to come here again!"
" And you are a fool to underestimate the power of God in my life." She retorted. " I will bring this people out of the bondage you have put them in."
" Confidence will not get you anything here child." He said.
" Confidence is only a part of it, I come here in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Now depart away from me you fowl creature."
And it was like a powerful wind blew past her utterance and he vanished.
" Thank you Jesus."
She then used the Bible as a gateway to reaching out to everyone present in the dream realm at the moment.
" People of Red Rivers. I need you to listen to my voice... My name is Abigail Benson, a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. And I come to you bearing good news, I know you have been troubled but there is a way out. John 3 vs 16 ; for God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son. That whosoever believe in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. If you wish to be free, all you need to do is go on your knees wherever you are. Close your eyes and say this few words of prayer with faith; Lord Jesus I believe you died on the cross of Calvary for my sake, you are my light out of this darkness. I surrender all to you, take control." She finished praying.
Right there she could feel the presence of the holy Spirit move in his mighty power. They actually heard her and did exactly what she said. The darkness began to fade away and was replaced by light...
*****
People began to wake up from around the town in their respective locations; hospitals, houses, police station, streets, literally everybody woke up. James could see those who were present at the River center coming to life on their feet, hugging one another. Some trying to understand what had happened.
He smiled. " She actually did it."
" All glory goes to the father."
He turned to see her. She had already woken up.
" You sleep well." He asked with a tease.
" Best I've had in a long time, your family."
" Great, spoke with them a couple of minutes ago. They are on their way."
" Good."
" SKROMDREAD?"
Abigail didn't get to answer that question as someone interrupted.
" What's that?"
They all looked.
A fog covered a huge chunk of the road they were staring at. It began to clear off and out there stood the dream traveller...
SKROMDREAD.
People began to back away even though he wasn't moving.
" What is that?"
" The hell..."
They mumbled among themselves.
" How is he here? How can we see it?"
James looked at her.
" I need to finish this." She walks past him and away from the crowd, coming face to face with the entity.
" Surprised? You really think you could get rid of me that easily. You destroyed my plan! My realm! Now, I will end your existence!" He bellowed.
" Suffer not a witch to live. Today you will die." She assured him.
" Spirits don't die."
" Actually, they do."
" We will see who dies today!"
Immediately he charges at her, grabbing her by the shoulder and they both shoot up into the sky at rocket speed. Everyone looking up in fear. Once they were above the clouds, SKROMDREAD stared dagger into the eyes of Abigail.
" You say you serve a living God! I hope he hears your cry as you fall to your death, you are nothing before me!"
He let go of her.
Abigail's body was out of control as it pommels down from the sky.
" Oh my God!!"
" Jesus!"
All manners of screams and cry as they saw her coming down.
She closed her eyes and smiled. Then she let out an utterance.
" Psalm 91 vs 4; he shall cover me with his feathers, and under his wings shalt I trust: his truth shall be my shield and buckler."
She hit the ground.
The wind of the impact sending everyone back with a rush. Once it clears away, they drew closer to check.
Abigail was standing.
Nothing. Not even a scratch on her skin. They were all shocked.
"HOW!!!" SKROMDREAD screamed.
" I Serve a living God demon."
She raised up her Bible. " Job 22 vs 28; I shall decree a thing and it shall come to pass. I call upon the fire of the most high God, fall! From heaven and burn this demon to ashes!"
" AMEN!" The crowd added with authority.
The demon caught fire immediately. His cry heard through out the place.
" I am only the beginning! More will come -"
He didn't finish before he became ashes falling from the sky. The people exclaimed in joy, indeed it was over now. Most people surrounded her a few minutes later, a lot of questions being asked and she took her time to answer them all. Even prayed again for people who wanted to give their life to Christ on the spot...
*******
A week later...
Riverside Church.
Pastor James Morgan stood up on the alter preaching. A lot of people were present for the first time in his church including Abigail and his family. This was God working mightly.
" Who is Jesus? In chemistry, he turned water into a wine. In biology, he was born without normal conception. Physically he defected the law of gravity by walking on water and ascended into the sky. In economics, he defected the law of declining yield by feeding 5000 men with two fishes and five loaves of bread; in medicine, he cures the sick and the blind by administering a dose of medicine. In history, he is the beginning and end. In politics; he is called the prince of peace and the King of all Kings. In religion; he said no one comes to the father except through him." He paused and looked at them, they were all paying attention.
He continues, " who is Jesus? The greatest man in history. Jesus had no servants, yet they called him Lord. Jesus had no degree, yet they called him doctor and master. He had no drugs yet they called him healer. No army, but he was called a fearful King.
He didn't win any battle yet they crucified him. He was buried in a tomb, yet he lives on today and forever. We are honoured to serve such a Shepard who loves us. Let us pray people of God."
They all bowed their heads in prayer...
****
After service, Abigail stood outside of the church in a brown tailcoat and blue cargo pants, a black scarf wrapped around her head, the color matching her flat shoes. The Uber driver she came with survived and would be here soon to pick her up, she was leaving Red Rivers.
James walks up to her after attending to a few people who wanted to see him, the church had grown within a week. People here believed in God and wanted to know more and grow spiritually.
" You will be missed by us all. Do you really have to go." He said. He was on a blue suit this time.
" The spirit beckons on me for something else, I really wish I could stay but I can't," She admits.
" Are you worried about what that demon said a week ago?"
" Matthew 24 vs 21; for then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. I think there's something coming James, I can feel it. SKROMDREAD was just a pawn to a bigger game...one that has not start playing yet." She predicted. But then she smiles.
" You seem happy about your discovery," He noticed.
" The darker the darkness, the brighter we burn. Take care James Morgan, and remember no matter what happens... Never lose your faith in God." She pulls her hand out.
" Definitely not." He pulls her in instead for a hug. " Thank you for believing in me and helping this town."
The Uber was here now.
She nods before grabbing her bag and entered the car. It drove off with James waving her goodbye. She heard the whisper of a voice she knew all too well.
" I am coming for you."
" Bring pizza." She whispered back with a smirk....
