Title of movie: Oddesseus- king of Ithica.

Based on epic poem by Homer.
In my opinion, one of the great historical, fascinating, captivating, scenic, documentary movies ever produced.Though Eurocentric, nevertheless, cuts across all cultural boundaries both in gender, ie artists participation, location- sea, land, forest. The movie depicts nature lessons, success, tragedies, endurance, negociation, trial, tribulations, triumps, gains, losses, collaborations, co operation, restraint, selfish and selflessness.
The film opens with the main character, Oddesseus in his Kingdom in Ithica.Shortly after the birth of Telemachus, his son, he was invited to be part of a larger Greek expedition to battle against the distant city of Troy.
At this point, it may not be out of place to note that like many great mythical characters, the character of Oddesseus was formed, cast, and ingrained, not because Oddesseus was king of Ithica, not because he was a skilled hunter, archer, bowman, or warrior, but his legend was formed on his struggles, trials and travails, which was thrust upon him, due to his seemingly unending journey through many a strange, uncharted, sometimes, uninhabited lands, filled with terrifying creatures, ie the underworld, in a bid to return to his home kingdom of Ithica, having missed his way, in company of his crews, as a result of his altercation with Poseidon, ruler of the seas, water and oceans.
Poseidon accused Oddesseus of failing to recognise the role he, Poseidon played in ensuring that the Greek expedition conquered the city of Troy, and thereby ending the seven years battle to capture Troy. As a result, Poseidon promised to purnish Oddesseus, including his crew. And indeed he exacted his pound of flesh.
Through the trials, travails, and his eventual return to Ithica, alone with all his crews lost, about twenty years away from his kingdom, Oddesseus the legend was made. Earlier, while Oddesseus was at sea, Oddesseus mother, Anthiclia, took her own life, and went to the underworld, after waiting endlessly for Oddesseus return. However, Oddesseus had received a message from Athena, a guide, visible to only those she wished. Athena told Oddesseus to visit the underworld where she would meet a certain blind man named Terisius, who would give him, the exact navigation routes to return to Ithica. It was during the visit to the underworld, that he was told-"you must return quickly to Ithica".
Oddesseus is about the journey(Oddessey), and the formation of the person during the journey. It speaks courage, resillence, despair, resignation(when on the island with calypso), re emergence, strength, conviction, humour, travails, trust- Athena, Aeoleso, and disobedience/selfishness- the opening of the sack that contained the wind/tempest that kept Oddesseus and his crew endlessly at sea, which Aeoleso- Poseidons cousin, had helped Oddesseus capture in a sack, with instruction never to open, but which was opened by one of Oddesseus crew member- Celenica, who thought that the sack contained wine, although earlier warned not to open the sack. Celenica cut open the sack while Oddesseus was asleep, even as they held Ithica in their sight and the results were catastrophic.
*Being so close to Ithica, after the sack was opened by Celenica, they were blown away to the distant island inhabited by women who turned men to different animals. However, Elmis, the messenger, came to Oddesseus rescue, and gave him a recipe against the magic of the women of the island.
*The same Elmis came to warn Calypso, to send off Oddesseus, (after Oddesseus lost his entire crew after the straits of Silla, into Caryptus, the tidal pool), of the danger of continuing to keep Oddesseus on her island.
* When Oddesseus eventually returned to Ithica, Athena helped him to disguise from being recognised, only known to few aides.
Oddesseus re emerges as ruler of Ithica.
