📍Benin City, Nigeria

You want to know the real spots in Benin City? Forget the chain stores on Sapele Road for a minute. Let me share some black-owned businesses that are actually run by our own people, places where the *smiles* are genuine and the money stays in our community.

First, if you haven't been to **Big Treat Restaurant** on **Upper Mission Road**, near the **Ugbowo Campus junction**, you're missing out. It's not just the *ogbono* soup that slaps. The owner, Mrs. Eghosa, is a local legend. She uses fresh *egusi* from **Oba Market** and her *eba* is so soft, you'll forget your name. Support them every weekend.

For a serious haircut or a fresh *low cut*, skip the salons on **New Benin Road** and head to **Fresh Cuts Barbershop** on **Siluko Road**, right opposite the **First Bank** branch. The brothers there know their clippers. They don't charge you for "talk" like those fancy shops. A proper fade for 500 Naira, and they use hot towels. Real local service.

If you need clothes, don't waste your money on imported *tokunbo* for double the price. Visit **Aunty Grace's Clothing** on **Ekehuan Road**, just behind the **Uselu Market**. She sells authentic *aso oke*, *ankara*, and *lace* from the *Oba of Benin*'s own suppliers. She'll even help you tailor it at her shop for a small fee. This is how we keep our fabric industry alive.

Now, for the youth: check out **Naija Grooves** on **Ring Road**, near the **Central Bank**. It's a small record shop run by a guy called "DJ Benji." He sells vintage *Highlife*, *Juju* music, and even *Fuji* from Lagos. He also hosts open mic nights every last Saturday of the month. If you love real Nigerian music, you have to support him. The place is tiny, but the vibe is massive.

Finally, for groceries and spices, **Iya Bisi's Stall** at **Oba Market** is king. Don't buy those pre-packaged *ugba* or *okporoko* from the supermarkets. Her *stockfish* is cut fresh, her *crayfish* is ground right there, and she'll tell you which *mangala* is best for your soup. She knows every farmer in **Igbinedion** and **Evbuotubu**.

Supporting these places isn't just about buying things. It's about keeping our money in our neighborhoods, from **Ugbowo** to **Ekosodin** to **Benin City** proper. Go see them.
