MY DEAR COUNTRY

(A poem by Tope Owolabi)

Nigeria my fatherland

The giant of Africa

Home of the three giant tribes

Dwelling together as one indivisible entity



Toiled under colonial hands for many years

Her colonial masters oppressed her people

And repatriated her wealth

To their own country home



Nationalists arose from within her

To defend the integrity of their Commonwealth

And fought gallantly for freedom

Which was attained in the year 1960.
